Greylock Teams with Girls Incorporated
in Financial Literacy Program
Donation Totals $10,000 for Two Years
January 16, 2008 PITTSFIELD – Greylock Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce continued support of the Financial Literacy Program in the Pittsfield Public Schools, in collaboration with Girls Incorporated of The Berkshires, a program of the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center in Pittsfield. Over a two-year period, Greylock has donated $10,000 to the program, enabling Girl’s Inc. to present a nationally accredited program helping young people make smart financial decisions. President Angelo Stracuzzi said, “This program is important because it will help these students reach their full potential in life. Greylock strongly believes financial literacy empowers young people in our community. Working with Girls Inc. we can help young people to be better managers of their personal finances and help them avoid poor decisions that may come back to haunt them as adults.” The importance of economic literacy education for the girls in the Pittsfield Public Schools represents a key component of programming offered at Girls Incorporated of The Berkshires. Kelly Baity, Chief Executive Officer Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center said, “We had positive results from this program last year and are thrilled to be able to continue the trend this school year. We have deep gratitude for the support of Greylock Federal Credit Union through various projects and programs at the center and most recently their generous donation of $10,000 to support financial literacy in Pittsfield High Schools.” Baity added, “Young women who make a successful transition into the labor force have a greatly reduced risk of becoming dependent on public assistance when they become adults. This program provides the base of knowledge on which to build.” The program will target a total of 50 to 75 female adolescents, offering five separate Future and Options program sessions during the school day at Pittsfield High School through May 2008. Greylock Federal Credit Union was recently rated the top credit union in the United States for total value returned to Members/Owners according to Callahan & Associates, a national credit union research and consulting firm. Greylock Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, attends school, worships or regularly conducts business in Berkshire County.
