Security - E-Mail Survey Phishing Attempt
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (5/17/07)--Another version of the fake "$20 survey" phishing scam has surfaced, this time targeting the Alexandria, Va.-based State Department FCU. The e-mail, with a subject line, "Urgent Five Question Survey from SDFCU," purports to be a "quick and easy five-question survey." It states that information collected will help make changes "to improve and expand" services and that the information is not handed to any third party. "It will be stored in our secure database for maximum seven days while we process the results of this urgent survey," the message says. Like other phish attempts, it directs the reader to a link and asks for personal information. Those receiving the e-mail should not click on the link, but instead delete the message.
This is a type of phishing using email to commit fraud. Please be aware that at no time will a representative of Greylock Federal, or any security-conscious institution, contact you to obtain, validate or discuss your "account number", credit card number or any other sensitive personal information. If you receive such an email, please delete the email and contact Greylock Federal at (413) 236-4000 to report the incident. |
