Security - Phone Phish
An elderly member was called on the phone and advised by a male voice that he was calling all customers of banks in our area (Berkshire County) regarding "fraud". Through the leading conversation with the member/customer, the perpetrator was able to secure the members account number. At the end of the conversation, the member/customer was given a “security number” to call GFCU to check on the validity of his call and that he was going to deposit $500.00 in to the member's account for their assistance.
This is a type of phishing using the telephone and is blatant fraud. Please be aware that at no time will a representative of Greylock Federal, or any security-conscious institution, contact you to obtain, validate or discuss your "account number", credit card number or any other sensitive personal information. If you receive such a call, please end the conversation immediately and contact Greylock Federal at (413) 236-4000 to report the incident. |
