As part of a collective community effort to address housing shortages and affordability, Greylock Federal Credit Union will offer a free educational workshop called "ADU 101: Building Possibilities." The workshop is designed to help homeowners understand how accessory dwelling units, known as ADUs, can help create housing opportunities, support multigenerational living, and even generate additional income.
"We are so proud of our ongoing efforts to help our community with housing challenges," said Myla Franklin, Community Lending Officer at Greylock. "ADUs can be a great option for people and their families. It could be a garage apartment for a college student or a small home on your property for aging parents. We want to help educate people about how to turn this possibility into a reality."
The workshop will be hosted at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24 in person at Greylock's Community Empowerment Center at 75 Kellogg St. in Pittsfield with a zoom option. Topics will include an overview of what qualifies as an ADU, financing opportunities (Greylock ADU loan programs and MassHousing updates), practical considerations, actionable next steps, and more.
